First published in 1990, this new edition of Moriyama’s _Lettre à St. Loup _containsa collection of images taken in and around Tokyo in 1990. Photographing his life and surroundings thoughout the year, the images write a visual letter, an ode to the French inventor Nicéphore Niépce who is recognized as creator of photography. Street scenes, motorcycles, nudes to landscapes and images of plants all create a portrait of the world as Moriyama viewed it, evoking images created by the surrealist works by artists such as Man Ray,EugèneAtget and Breton, Moriyama’s body of work composes a vision of Tokyo as a “dream capital”, a visual urban labyrinth of both memory and place.
