Kawade Shobo Shinsha was originally founded in 1886 as Seibido in Nihonbashi, Tokyo. Today, our publishing activities cover a wide range of fields, including Japanese literature, foreign literature, humanities and social sciences, art books, practical books, children's books, and the magazine “Bungei”. While striving to develop plans that respond to the times, the publishing philosophy of the small company, “passing on cultural heritage / creating new culture / actively introducing foreign culture,” will guide our publishing activities.
