Japanese publisher Akio Nagasawa’s 2020 edition of Daido Moriyama’s seminal photobook “Farewell Photography” (originally published in 1972) presents a selection of 80 images from the original book in a one-photograph-per-page layout.

Many of the negatives of the original photographs of the 1972 edition have been lost. In 2012, Moriyama was inspired “to revisit the negatives that had survived, and choose 80 shots from the series for a new edition of Farewell Photography,” explains Akio Nagasawa in his afterword (included in Japanese and English translation).
The layout of the original photobook featured Moriyama’s landscape-format photographs on two pages, meaning that a fold in the center separates the images’ left and right side. In order to make it easier to fully appreciate every single one of the photographs, this edition adopted a one-item-per-page layout.
