Daido Slide
In 1999, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art organised the exhibition "Daido Moriyama: Stray Dog", curated by Sandra S. Phillips. The show, which later toured the US and Europe, marked the beginning of Daido Moriyama's international reputation.
In 2024, a quarter of a century later, a total of 140 slide photographs were rediscovered. These are the photographs that Moriyama himself selected for the exhibition as a representation of his work. Now this crucial selection is finally available in book form.
Edited and designed by Moriyama's long-time collaborator Satoshi Machiguchi, "Daido Slide" shows Moriyama at his best – a comprehensive cross-section of the images that defined his photography.
The back of the book features an afterword by Daido Moriyama and short essays by four curators who have helped shape his career - Sandra S. Phillips, Hervé Chandès, Simon Baker and Thyago Nogueira.
“It was me who compiled the slides, but if you suspect now that I was having American audiences in mind when I made my choices, that wasn’t really the case. I think the process was that I intuitively picked the photos that didn’t get framed for the exhibition, and handed them to Sandra in order to have them made into slides.”
