The Well

The Well

Nigel SHAFRAN

“This isn’t a book if best pictures, it’s more of a tight edit than that. It’s a book about the ideas that always end up somewhere in my work, I guess… Windows, shopping, making decisions, and consuming…”
― Nigel Shafran

With “The Well,” British fashion photographer Nigel Shafran takes a critical look back at the many years of his long career. Starting with images from the early 1980s, when he first made contact with commercial photography while still a teenager, and leading up to his most recent works, “The Well” compiles Shafran’s idiosyncratic work as a high-end portrait and fashion photographer in the form of a comprehensive visual narrative that follows his artistic and professional development. As noteworthy as the photographs themselves is the commentary on many of photographs and projects, in which Shafran and peers offer self-reflective, critical insight of the photographs, provide background info about the world of fashion photography and reveal a few hints and tips about select shots.
