Snow
Highly acclaimed for her intimate portraits, in “Snow” the British photographer Vanessa Winship documents her own struggles to connect and fully understand a place she originally visited for an assignment but returned to again and again to figure out her own fascination. In delicate, almost haunting color and black-and-white photographs rich in symbolism, Winship shares her own estrangement and bewilderment with the reader, acknowledging (per the publisher’s statement), “that she, like us all, is nothing but a stranger in this world.”
The photographs are accompanied and interspersed with text by the author Jem Posters – a fictional story about a photographer that bears an uncanny relationship to Winship but is explicitly not about her.
