In the summer of 2023, Taiwanese-Japanese photographer Daisuke Tomizawa returned to his native Taiwan after having been unable to visit for more than three years.
Equipped with a 6x6 medium-format camera, Tomizawa recorded his month-long journey in portraits of friends and family members and snapshots of important or inconsequential scenes. “Land” radiates with the joy of seeing, and the desire to capture and hold on to moments, sights and other people. Tinted in the melancholy reddish hue of Kodak Gold film, Tomizawa’s photograps of everyday places, inconspicuous details and smiling faces not only reflect the artist’s joie de vivre and observant eye, but are also express the purity of the act of pressing the shutter.
