Mountain-Fog
“In the fog I planted a seed
Together we became the fog”
― from Lu Yanpeng’s poem “Mountain Fog”
This box contains twenty high-quality prints from Lu Yanpeng’s series “Mountain Fog” (2010–). Lu Yanpeng, whose artistic practice involves poetry, painting and photography, has created a pictorialist style reminiscent of Western works of the 20th century as well as traditional Chinese ink-and-water paintings that have been used to express the beauty of nature for more than a thousand years.
The series is inspired by one of Lu Yanpeng’s poems (included in this edition in Chinese and in English translation), written based on an overheard conversation between two young cousins, who imagined pigs and cows to be fathers and sons of fog. The twenty photographs show tree branches, rocks and mountain silhouettes shrouded in a thick, mysterious fog that gives his images an otherworldly, sublime, spiritual character.
