Arakiss
This photobook was published to accompany the “Arakiss” exhibition at WestLicht/OstLicht Gallery in Vienna (May 19–August 1, 2021), held to commemorate Nobuyoshi Araki’s 80th birthday.
Like the exhibition, the photobook takes a thorough look at Araki’s oeuvre, beginning with photographs from “Sachin”, one of the earliest series of his career, all the way to his latest project “Paradise” from 2020. The book pays particular attention to the recurring themes and obsessions in the more than 50s years in Araki’s career: sexuality, death, fiction and reality, censorship, and playfulness.
