Vanishing Point
In her photobook “Vanishing Point”, the Japanese photographer Kanade Hamamoto plays with themes of ephemerality, substance, liminality and existence. For the series, Hamamoto asked various people to tell her about a recent dream and send her a photo from their camera roll that most closely resembles the dream’s story. Hamamoto then exhibited (manipulated) prints of these images in “liminal zones”—places and buildings that were about to disappear without a trace, such as old buildings about to be torn down or temporary fences guarding construction sites. Through further modifications to Hamamoto’s works, designer Nicola Tirabasso entered into a collaborative dialogue with the artist to emphasize the sense of ephemerality, meaningless and beauty of the series.
