Michio Yamauchi’s photobook “Tokyo 2016-2017” consists of color photographs taken in the streets of Tokyo in 2016 and 2017. While some of the photographs are “classical” street-photography, most of the images in Yamauchi’s series are snapshot portraits of single subjects. The series manages to reflect and portray the individuals inhabiting the city (and captured within its context) as well as the atmosphere of its streets, thereby constructing a balanced, thoughtful connection between the whole and the individual.
