HITOE
Published in 1992 Hitoe beautifully encapsulates Michio Yamauchi’s fascination with people, the individuals and and the personalities in which inhabit city spaces. Hitoe contains a selection of photographs taken in-between 1983 and 1992 during which Yamauchi worked as a freelance photographer. The photographs are closely framed, capturing individuals and scenes of people in and amongst the busy streets of Ueno, Shinjuku, Shibuya, Waseda and Takadanobaba. The resulting images capture instances which could otherwise be missed though the bustle and movement of the cities streets, making visible the individual and idiosyncratic eccentricities found within the myriad of instances and people in Tokyo.
