To Find The Right Chair
To find the right chair,
the right chair to find…
Jun Iwasaki’s series of hazy, poetic, evocative images first began when the artist noticed the wealth of memories, mental images and recollections unconsciously captured in photographs he had originally taken solely for documentary purposes. Though shot in cities around the world, “To Find The Right Chair” is neither a collection of places nor a record of a journey. Photographed with deep sympathy and compassion for his subjects (many of them inanimate objects, happenstance situations, ordinary scenes taken from specific angles, and personal-yet-universal moments), Iwasaki’s photographs seem to reach directly into our subconscious to enter into a dialogue with our memories and feelings.
“This book has 20 colored and 2 b/w photographs taken with a small-format camera in 10 different cities where the photographer used to live, or visit, between 2012 and 2020.
Each photo presents an historical yet insignificant moment in Iwasaki’s visual poetry.”
