The Making of “The Pale Fox” by Camille Henrot

The Making of “The Pale Fox” by Camille Henrot

Publisher: edition.nord

Go Itami’s photographic record of Camille Henrot’s exhibition “The Pale Fox” (Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery, 2019) was created as a highly on-site and improvisational manner: photographed one day before the opening, then laid-out in the morning and completed during the opening day. Itami’s images capture not only the artist’s intention but also provide a visual guide for the reader to imagine the space in full and in detail, with the exceptionally strong, bold colors of the photographs offering an almost visceral sensual stimulation.
The photobook is bound in the same type of carpet used on the walls and ground of the installation and includes an illustration of Henrot’s cosmic thinking.

“Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz’s four principles relating to nature, contradiction, reason and continuity are respectively portrayed on the four walls, creating an immersive study on topics including stages of the formation of the universe, human growth, and ages of human civilization. Information accumulated in chaotic coexistence and the classification of a vast number of objects, images, and gestures become an excess of impressions showing the failure of systems and rationality. This installation, considered the counterpart to the video work Grosse Fatigue, embodies the articulation of gaps and connections between private individual and global subject, what is limited and what is unlimited.”
