Originally planned as a critical response to Tokyo’s frenzy regarding the upcoming Olympic Games, Daisuke Yokota series “Tokyo Broken Mirrors” features – as the title suggests – mirrors broken in specific locations in Tokyo before being photographed.

The photobook “Broken Mirrors 2020” collects not only the finished photographs of the series but also a sort of photographic record of the secret chambers in which the original work was created. Taken with an old camera, the photographs feature deliberately wrong dates, adding a further layer of verfremdung to Yokota’s work.
