Takashi Homma’s delightful hommage to sushi
A subtle but succint detail that speaks of Takashi Homma’s appreciation of sushi, a quintessential Japanese food, can be found on the final page of this gently composed photobook: Hitoshi Yoshitomi, the sushi master captured in Homma’s photographs, is credited before Homma himself as an author of the book.
Yoshitomi is the master of Yoshitomi Sushi, a small sushi restaurant in Fukuoka known only to those in the know. A place with a quiet glow to it, located near Fukuoka’s fish market, away from the center of the city. Though founded in 1979, the restaurant serves sushi traditionally, Edomae-style, in an omakase fashion. With his photographs, Homma pays tribute to the master’s craft.
