BREATHLESS
The photographer, Yoichi Nagano, who has been fascinated by landscapes and people in small islands throughout Japan, has been taking photos of them over the decade.
The new series released after 11 years since his first photo book “Shima no hohoemi” is consist of pieces made by setting up certain situations purposely to capture subjects comprehensively, unlike his former style to shoot things accidentally.
These new pieces of the local people in the island float in water with their usual clothes on seem to depict dignity of existence with the atmosphere of life and death while also revealing the feeling of despair that today’s Japan has.
With the prominent editorial design with fragmentary ambience done by a popular Dutch designer SYB, the book represents the evanescence of a moment in water with anacatesthesia.
