Time in Air, Time in Paper
An honest, sophisticated study of the simple, sublime beauty of ordinary objects
In her photobook “Time in Air, Time in Paper”, France-based Japanese photographer Sachiko Morita regards everyday objects such as leaves of a tree, edible roots, plants, flowers, fish, shoes, grapes, onions or loaves of bread with meticulous care and attention. Her images – shot as if Morita is trying to reach deep into the core of her subjects’ being – possess a fascination that can only be explained by the manual nature of her work. To achieve the almost painting-like quality of her photographic prints, Morita creates her own photographic paper by applying photosensitive liquid to hand-selected watercolor paper and exposing her images using natural light.
