"Ghost," the sixth volume of the Tokyo-based photography magazine Sha Shin, explores the relationship between the medium of photography and invisible presences. Featuring photo series by Lieko Shiga, Jun Abe, Ai Iwane, Taro Karibe, Sayo Nagase, Erika Yoshino, and Shunji Dodo, "Sha Shin vol. 6" explores photography's ability to capture phenomena and sensations beyond the realm of human perception. Through essays, interviews, and special features by thinkers and photographers such as Ken Ohyama, Shiho Hamano, and Keiji Kita, the magazine also explores the question of what the true ghosts of our time might be.
While several shorter essays, as well as reports and reviews of contemporary publications and gallery exhibitions, are only available in Japanese, all statements by Jun Abe, Ai Iwane, Taro Karibe, Sayo Nagase, and Erika Yoshino, Ken Ohyama's long text "Is Ghost Photography Dead?", an essay by critic Kotaro Iizawa, and an interview between Nozomi Onodera and Lieko Shiga are included in English translation.
