Taro KARIBE
苅部太郎
Born 1988 in Aichi. Tokyo-based Artist/ Photographer.
His research in ‘general systems theory’ led him to an interest in the "invisible pattern structure" that surrounds our lives, and after crossing the fields of psychology, HIV/AIDS eradication (UK/South Africa), finance, and IT, he began expressing himself in photography. His photographic skills were acquired through working as an assistant to several photographers, including Harry Gruyaert/Magnum Photos.
His work takes the complex aspects of today's reality back to the roots of media technology and perceptual systems to re-grasp them. His methods have been applied to journalism in disaster-stricken and conflict areas and documentaries that capture people's relationship with artifacts, and now to the subjective visual world of Holos (Planetary Intelligence), which is formed through the interaction of technology and people, and his works on the "experience of seeing things" from different angles.
