A girl at play
“A Girl at Play” shows a series created early in Hajime Sawatari’s career, long before the publication of his best-known works like “Alice” or “Nadia”. The photographs, taken in 1964, are already representative of Sawatari’s trademark style.
“It was very rare to see a foreign-looking child in Japan at the time. She seemed like a fairy to me when I first met her. I felt a strong connection and asked if I may take her photographs” — Hajime Sawatari
The photobook is limited to 900 copies and was published accompanying the same-titled exhibition at Akio Nagasawa Gallery (March 2 - 25, 2018).
