Farah Al QASIMI
1991年アラブ首長国連邦、アブダビ生まれ。
現在ニューヨークで活動するアーティスト。欧米と中東の文化と視覚言語に精通し、ドキュメンタリー写真やルネサンス絵画など多様なイメージの構成や解釈の仕方を巧みに取り入れ、中東の姿をリッチな色彩と質感でミステリアスに描き出す。華美な衣装や装飾、伝統的な慣習、パッションフルーツ、日本のゲームやアニメ、バービー人形……魅惑的な写真の中に埋め込まれたコードをどのように読み解くかは、見る者の知識や経験、文化的背景によって異なるだろう。アル・カシミは、中東に対するクリシェなイメージを覆すために、ひとつの答えを提示するのではなく、伝統が色濃く残る場所でリベラルな価値観がどのように定義され、表現されるかを探求し続けている。2021年5月にCapriciousより写真集『Hello Future』を刊行予定。
