Born in Saitama, Japan in 1983. Graduated from Nippon Photography Institute. His work questions the relationship between memory and the present, image and reality, through the complex use of post-photography data processing, repetitive output and reproduction, and special development methods. 2010 Grand Prix at the 2nd Photography “1_WALL”, 2013 OUTSET|UNSEEN Exhibition Fund in 2010, the John Kobal Residency Award at Photo London in 2015, the Foam Paul Huf Award in 2016, and the 45th (2019) “Ihei Kimura Photography Award”. He has exhibited and presented his work in Japan and abroad, including two solo exhibitions at the FoamFotografiemuseum (Amsterdam) (2014, 2017), and has published numerous photography books in Japan and abroad, including “垂乳根” (Session Press, 2015) and “VERTIGO” (Newfave, 2014).
Bound and Printed in italy, In the Wake is the printed accompaniment for the exhibition of the same name held at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston from April-July 2015. Included within are the photographic responses from 17 Japanese artists and photographers selected by curators Anne Nishimura Morse and Anne E. Havinga. From Nobuyoshi Araki, Lieko Shiga, Kikuji Kawada and Rinko Kawauchi, this anthology of images presents a fascinating catalogue of the works and texts created by each of the participating artists whom all attempt at making sense of the magnitude of loss and the aftermath of the natural disaster.
