Umipodo
Shot in Seoul and Tokyo between 2011 and 2023, "Umipodo" tells the story of the carefree friendship between Korean photographer Jeon Soljii and Japanese-Australian actress Shiori Kutsuna ("Deadpool", "Invasion", "Death Stranding 2"). Jeon portrays her friend through snapshots, capturing silly and intimate private moments and the atmosphere of Tokyo and Seoul, the cities in which their friendship unfolds. In the book's layout, many of the photographs are either arranged in short series of two or juxtaposed in an almost humorous way.
“I strive to capture the miracles that arise from coincidences through my photography. (…)
I try to carry my camera every day regardless of the weather. I don’t have a car, so I walk everywhere. While walking or moving to another place, there are moments when a scene suddenly strikes me, like, ‘This is interesting, right now!’ That's when I pick up my camera. There are moments that only I find amusing. Even when a neighborhood dog is out for a walk, there are funny moments, and the bus stop I pass by every day always shows a different face. Although it's the same scenery I see every day, the scenes I encounter in the seemingly ordinary moments feel more intriguing”
― Solji Jeon
