Kansuke Yamamoto
Published to accompany the exhibition of Kansuke Yamamoto’s work at Taka Ishii Gallery in Tokyo.
Kansuke Yamamoto (1914-1987) was an influential Japanese photographer and poet.
Unlike the majority of Japanese photographers active during the first half of the 20th century, his work was heavily influenced by avantgarde European and Russian movements and shows, among others, elements of Surrealism, Dadaism and Constructivism.
“Kansuke Yamamoto” features representative vintage works by the artist, reproduced with great care and precision under the supervision of Yamamoto’s son and representative of his estate, Toshio Yamamoto.
An extensive essay on Yamamoto’s work, written by Ryuichi Kaneko, and a profile of the artist are included in both English and Japanese.
