Luminance of Streets
As for my practice of wandering towns by night, I think it began during my later elementary school years when I was around 10, a long time before I picked up the camera, when I was not able to enthuse about study and didn't like televeision so much, and wasted mosto f my after-school time reading manga and listening to talk-radio and songs.
But theses activities failed to absorb me. In the nook of my classroom and in my own room alone, I escaped reality by creating a fictitious world woven from my lust and self-love, in which my real friends appeared, and girls too. In those days I felst as if the real, rich world surrounding me existed only to highlight my warped mind and inferiority complex. The only "real" life in which I engaged was strollign the streets after dark.
In the cool air of the kind of nights in which busy townscape acquires transparency, my juvenile desires and curiosity were stirred up even more than in my illusory world...
