“Kanata-he no Umi” is the third entry in Noboru Hama’s “Okinawa” series and the only book in the trilogy to feature color images.
Compared to the other (earlier) photographs, Hama’s color photographs show a slower approach to his capturing life on the Okinawan islands, with his visual language more inspired by classical compositions, and the selection of subjects influenced by Hama’s ability to depict them in color. Like the previous two entries in the series, “Kanata-he no Umi” (rightfully) relies entirely on the power of its images, with no text appearing throughout the book.
