VOICE Hong Kong 2019
“Never forget what happened in Hong Kong in June 2019!”
― quote by a protestor on VOICE Hong Kong 2019’s cover
Michiko Kiseki, who spent her childhood in Hong Kong and France, was in Hong Kong from July 2019 until February 2020 to witness and document the many protests of the Anti-Extradition Law Amendment Bill Movement. Shot in black and white, Kiseki employs a variety of techniques, styles and distances to capture the atmosphere and the struggle of Hong Kong’s pro-democratic demonstrations from the perspective not of a photojournalist but a sympathetic observer. The passion, the hopefulness, the desperation and the vigor of the protestors is all there in Kiseki’s images.
