Silver
In the photobook “Silver,” Japanese photographer Hayahisa Tomiyasu explores the relationship, differences and similarities between Japan and Germany as well as themes like the global society through images of silver cars parked on streets in Yokohama with cars of the same make and model parked in Leipzig. The pattern-like nature of the book, with each car facing its counterpart on the other end of the world as if mirrored, gives rise to a gentle, quiet poetry, turning the mirror into rhyme. Forming humorous, well-observed connections through photography and editing alone, Tomiyasu’s book offers a distinct perspective on urban life in two very different places, leaving conclusions and subtle discoveries to the reader.
