Shinkirou
In his photobook “Shinkirou,” Japanese photographer Naoki Honjo makes masterful use of the tilt-shift technique to portray industrial and residential areas in the city of Yokkaichi as if they were miniature models. Large buildings, groups of people, shipping contains, rollercoasters and entire neighbourhoods are seemingly transported into a make-believe playworld, allowing viewers to scrutinize our world in an entirely new way.
Naoko Honjo was born in Tokyo in 1978. In his photography, he focuses on landscapes and buildings to engage the themes of community and human intervention in a unique style. His book “Small World” won him the 32nd Ihei Kimura Photography Award.
