Japanese weddings feature an amalgamation of Japanese traditions and Western customs introduced since the early 20th century.

With “Just Married”, Tatsu Hanai has compiled twelve years of work as a professional wedding photographer and presents a selection of moments before, during and after the ceremony that highlight the chaos, the humour, the tension and the emotions that form part of modern Japanese wedding celebrations.
Whether it is a bride’s father volunteering to hold the photographer’s reflector in a grotesque pose, children acting out of character, a mother breaking out in tears with the newly-weds, or a couple’s visit to a dying grandmother in a hospice, each of Hanai’s images reveals to us another little facet of modern Japanese family life.
