The subject of Kei Ono’s photobook “Reach out and Touch Faith” is the Japanese live idol group “Bellring Girls Heart”. Fascinated by the excessive stage performances in the darkness of the live clubs and the frenzied fans supporting them, Ono visited their concerts for two years and a half, film camera in hand. The more than 500 photographs in the photobook focus less on the lit-up stage in the dark but also show the wild, enthusiastic fans following the band, the band members psyching up backstage before their shows and then the burnt out shells they become once a show is over.
“Reach out and touch Faith” is a unique documentation of the world of live idol bands.
