Present
Mixing shots of (historic) newspaper articles and images with snapshots from daily life in his book “Present”, Japanese artist Daichi Koda constructs an ambiguous image of the way we treat the past in the present. The newspaper articles already present a digested and pre-selected vision of a past present, and were photographed and duplicated in accordance with an ambiguously written law. History is often regarded as a clearly defined truth, but with his work Koda questions the validity of that impression. At the same time, through the inclusion of ordinary snapshots from daily life, Koda preserves a version of the present (a future history) that may not be reflected in future interpretations of our times.
