In Masahide Kobayashi’s beautiful, contemplative photobook “Mimasaka”, we experience in black-and-white photographs Kobayashi’s travels through the mountains surrounding his birth town of Mimasaka.

“Between 2012 and 2017, I drove along these mountainous roads, gathering and storing the landscapes of the area on my camera.
Certain places were old familiar haunts, while other sites had changed so utterly as to feel like it was the first time I had set foot there.

Those days, contemplated through the landscapes and their photographs, grew into an experience mingling both nostalgia and freshness, as if I were continually renewing an old map in my mind.”
