BERG WERK
This was a time when coal mines everywhere were disappearing. I resolved to go to Akabira. It would be the first time in 25 years. Akabira, the place of my youth.
The shaft winder was still there. now reduced to a skeleton of a dinosaur, it gazed down at me in silence. Here it stood, all this time. So I said, aloud, OK, I’m going to shoot this. [..]
With camera and my eye, I catch a subject, stop time, and affix a skin of light upon it. This has been my work for the last twenty years.
