Mamá
Nacho Caravia started taking the photographs in “Mamá” after he had moved away from his mother to start his own life. Every now and then, he visited her in his former childhood home and photographed her as he saw her now – “free of the mother-son hierarchy”.
The resulting portray series is one of delicate carefulness (the colors, the choice of paper, too, underline the softness in Caravia’s approach), which manages to capture the its protagonist – Cavarian’s mamá – from within the unique situation of the mother-son bond losing its previous meaning.
“The pictures in the book are both a portrait and a homage to the person with whom I have spent more time with than anyone. And I still do.” — from the artist’s statement
