Leib
In her photobook “Leib”, Japanese photographer and dancer Mirika Ishida focuses on the body as the locus of life. With the delicate pages of the book physically underlining the fragile nature of her subject matter, Ishida presents compositions in which her body interacts with iterations of itself in the surreal space of the multi-exposure photograph. The organic body overlaps with its representation and all movement becomes still. With the boundaries between reality and ideal momentarily blurred and meaningless, Ishida attempts to cross the gaps between self (artist) and other (audience) and to connect the spaces within herself with those on the outside.
