Frozen Light
Set in Aomori, the prefecture in Japan with the heaviest snowfall, “Frozen Light” is a fragile story, told in portraits, about overcoming winter. Toka Mahiro lets his subjects interact with the harshness of the surrounding landscapes, providing a sense of warmth against the cold, blue winter snow. In his beautiful, dignified photographs, it seems as if the light radiating from the young high-school student girls was captured – frozen forever – by his camera.
