From The New World
In her book "From The New World," Japanese photographer Kisara Okada presents a selection of one hundred photographs of coincidental moments and chance encounters. With bright, cheerful colors, efficient framing, and impeccable timing, Okada lets stories and feelings emerge from single photographs. These range from the chaotic (e.g., a photo of someone doing a backflip on a crowded street) to the romantic, contemplative, nostalgic, and downright funny. Each photo is accompanied by a short text in which Okada explains the background of the photo or offers her thoughts.
The back of the book includes an essay by Japanese photography critic Shun Uchibayashi on the history and nature of the "decisive moment" in photography. All texts in Japanese and English.
“There are moments when coincidences happen as if by design, and there are times of mystery and excitement, when you find yourself asking, ‘Why?’
How would it look if such scenes were photographed and lined up in a row? Perhaps people would think that there is a lot of ‘a bit of fun’ in everyday life. This is the reason why I continue to take photographs of the city. After viewing this collection of work, I would be happy if you would want to look for ‘a little bit of fun’ around you.”
