Fossil of Perspective
Featuring one hundred photographs selected from the twenty series he has produced over the past forty years, Fossil of Perspective is a comprehensive introduction to the photography of Korean artist Myung-oh Chung. The book traces Chung's photographic aesthetic, which, in the artist's own words, is defined by "subjective perspective and lyrical emotion. His imaginative yet uncluttered black-and-white photographs capture a wide range of places, from South Africa to Japan, South Korea, Kenya, Morocco, Austria, Switzerland, and Germany during reunification, with a deep understanding of their common element of humanity.
“As a photographer, the moments I am rather inspired to capture are those that occur in a natural and calm setting, not played out to be intentionally beautiful or dramatic. To me, these natural moments present the most photogenic objects. Among the ordinary scenes that are easily overlooked by many people, I often discover those calling out to me with their intoxicating subtlety.”
