Familiar Street Scenes
"At the periphery of consciousness I give myself up to the blowing wind and take steps along famliar streets. Standing at the edge of traffic, I snap photographs."
- Shigeo Gocho
A reprint of the 1981 originally self-published photobook published by Yagisa in 2013 , Shigeo Gocho's Familiar Street Scenes wonderfully captures the everyday happenings on the streets of Tokyo. Photographed in various areas such as Shimokitazawa, Shibuya, Ginza, Shinjuku and Yokohama city, space and time become familiar in-between each photograph permeating throughout each scene as it is played out. Children are continuously present within the images, themes of youth, love and age are continuously portrayed within, tenderly encapsulating moments which are fleeting, joyful and fragile.
