“Dessins erotiques” is a collaboration between French illustrator Francois Alary and Japanese photographer Chikashi Suzuki. For Alary, it is the third entry in a series in which he explores the importance of eroticism in Japanese art and the differences between the erotic sensibilities in Japan and France.
The approach in “Dessins erotiques” is of experimental nature: Suzuki’s photography documents Alary’s drawing directly on the skin of a naked model. In the book, the monochromatic images of the painted model are joined by a small cartoon character, adding one more touch of strangeness.
