W. Eugene Smith

Publisher: Crevis

“A Life in Photography” is published as a catalogue to the TOPMuseum exhibition of the same title. Both book and exhibition give an overview of one of the greatest documentary photographers in history, W. Eugene Smith. In addition to essays by Dr. Rebecca Senf, Aileen M Smith, Kevin Eugene Smith and Kazuyoshi Nomachi (all in Japanese language), the book consists of images from Smith’s milestone series, among them “Spanish Village”, “Country Doctor”, “Man of Mercy”, his photography documenting the Pacific theater of the Second World War and the postwar growth of Japan’s economy.
The exhibition and the book have been created in cooperation with Smith’s heirs and the University of Arizona Center for Creative Photography, where Smith’s work is deposited.
