A Bright Room
Shingo Kanagawa's series "A Bright Room" documents the artist's shared life in an unconventional household. Kanagawa is part of an equal three-way relationship with another man (artist Reiji Saito) and woman (photographer Aya Momose). In relaxed, bright photographs, Kanagawa captures the everyday moments of intimacy within this shared life, exploring how labels such as love, friendship, desire and sexuality shape his understanding of loneliness and connection.
“While it may have been desire and love that brought the three of us together, it ius ot what connects us now. I think what we share now would be better described by the word friendship (though I can’t say with confidence that I understand the difference between love and friendship well). As our relationships continue, the meaning of (and need for) sexuality keeps changing.”
