Joel STERNFELD
ジョエル・スタンフェルドは、アメリカの経験におけるユートピックとディストピックの可能性に関心を寄せるアーティストであり写真家である。
1987年に画期的な研究書『American Prospects』を発表して以来、彼の作品はコンセプチュアルで政治的な側面を保ちつつ、歴史、美術史、風景理論、季節の移ろいへの関心に彩られている。メランコリックで、壮大で、滑稽で、深遠なアメリカの肖像である。キュレーターのケヴィン・ムーアは、この作品が「1970年代の多くの写真スタイルの総合的な集大成であり、ストリート写真のユーモアと社会的な鋭敏さを、ニュー・トポグラフィックスの写真の抑制された感覚と、多くの後期カラリストの作品の顕著な形式主義に取り入れている」と主張している（Kevin Moore, Starburst: Color Photography in America 1970-1980）。
