Thomas SAUVIN

Publisher: Jiazazhi Press

In “Verso,” editor and photography collector Thomas Sauvin explores his vast archive of salvaged photographs from China for ID photos. Their fates and names unknown, the many different faces in “Verso” are destined to remain anonymous. By exposing the photographs to a strong light source, characters (notes, anecdotes, names?) that were written by hand on the back of the photographs materialize on the front, serving as elusive hints of unknown lives.

Thomas Sauvin is the initiator of the Beijing Silvermine project for which he saved more than 850,000 anonymous negatives from being destroyed.
