The Himalayas: Romantic Geographic Archive 2
Photographs from places inaccessible to most
Japanese mountain climber and adventurer Naoki Ishikawa’s book “The Himalayas” comprises photographs taken in some of the most difficult-to-reach locations on the planet. This second edition of the book, published as part of Too Much Magazine’s Romantic Geographic Archive series, adds new photographs taken during Ishikawa’s most recent expeditions to Kanchenjunga and Amadablam. Split into numerous chapters, Ishikawa’s carefully curated photographs focus on individual aspects of the local culture and flora, with chapters dedicated to the strange ice shapes he encountered or to the breathtaking mountainscapes on the Manaslu mountain. Ishikawa’s journeys involve untangling a mess of Nepalese cultural politics, Asian geopolitics, unpredictable weather, emerging technology, fear and doubt. In addition to more than 300 photographs, a detailed written record of his ascends provide more insight into the preparations and the experiences of his climbs (included in Japanese and English translation).
