Infinity Mirrors
“Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirrors”, originally published in conjunction with the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden 2017 exhibition of the same name, explores the Japanese artist’s most spectacular and well-known series, and provides a comprehensive overview of her life and her work.
Through numerous photographs, in-depth essays, a year-by-year chronology, and an interview, “Infinity Mirrors” focuses on Kusama’s “Infinity Mirror Room” installation series to trace the evolution and the cultural impact of her art. Beginning with the underground Polka Dot happenings on the streets of New York in the 1960s, the self-obliteration during the Vietnam War, her paintings and sculptures, and moving to more contemporary works such as 2016’s “All The Eternal Love I Have For The Pumpkins,” the book examines the changing themes, media, contexts, audience reception and backgrounds of Kusama’s art over the decades.
