Originally published in 2001, the remastered edition of Todd Hido’s first monograph “House Hunting” presents the artist’s series in large format, printed on high-quality matte art paper and its colors rendered more closely to Hido’s ideal.
For the series, Hido photographed suburban houses—repossessed tract homes, family homes and similarly trivial architecture—at night, with nothing to suggest habitation but the soft glow of TV screens and bedlights through window blinds. Hido’s photos tread a thin line between eery and inviting, between sneering judgment and melancholic compassion.
