China Imagined
The book “China Imagined” provides an overview of the exhibition of the same title held at BredaPhoto Festival in the Netherlands and curated by photographer Ruben Lundgren and writer He Yining.
Using photographs of the individual exhibition spaces, the book introduces works by contemporary Chinese artists such as Pixy Liao, Feng Li, Guo Yingguang, Zhang Kechun and Ren Hang. Additional information is delivered through artist statements as well as a booklet in the center which includes artist profiles and interviews with the curators. “China Imagined” offers a comprehensive introduction to contemporary Chinese photography.
“China Imagined tries to understand the current construction of Chinese imagination and to investigate the problem of photographic representation in intercultural contexts. In times of uncertain international relations amid a global pandemic, the exhibition seeks to help bridge the undeniable gap of misunderstanding between the Western and Chinese audiences.” (from the publisher’s description)
